Stage 2

South East Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy Stage 2 Interim Report

South East Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy - Stage 2 Interim Report, released in January 2006, outlines the approach we need to take to ensure water supplies meet our short and medium-term water needs and lists projects that will be fast tracked to address future needs.

The provision of secure water supplies is essential to support the long-term growth in South East Queensland. In response to this need, the Queensland Government in partnership with the Council of Mayors (SEQ) has developed the South East Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy - Stage 2 Interim Report to outline what is being done to address the challenges associated with population growth, climate variability and climate change.

The Interim Report provides details of shorter-term priority projects and contingency planning initiatives to be commenced in the period 2005-2009 and lists medium term (2010-2020) and possible long-term (2020-2050) initiatives

The State Government and SEQROC have recently agreed to advance further stages of the South East Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy at an estimated cost of $2.6million.

The estimated cost to complete the Strategy is over and above any existing activity that is currently being undertaken and, similar to Stage 1, expenditure is exclusive of a significant portion of in-kind work by the State Government, Local Governments and other stakeholders that will be required to complete the Strategy.

It is anticipated that a draft Strategy will be available for release at the end of June 2007, in alignment with the Office of Urban Management’s South East Queensland Regional Plan, which is being finalised at present for consideration by the State Government.
